glossaries package FAQ
When using makeindex, the glossary is divided into 28 groups corresponding to the initial character: symbols, digits, a, …, z. When using xindy, the groups may be different if you’re using an extended Latin alphabet (which may have additional groups) or a non-Latin alphabet (which won’t have the Latin letters). With xindy, the digit group can be omitted with xindy={glsnumbers=false}.
Each group is separated by \glsgroupskip which is set to \indexspace when using one of the list styles or is set to a blank row when using one of the tabular styles. This can be suppressed by using the package option nogroupskip or by redefining \glsgroupskip to do nothing:
\renewcommand{\glsgroupskip}{}
However note that \glsgroupskip is redefined each time the glossary style is changed, so make sure you either redefine it after you set the glossary style or define your own custom glossary style.
Note that the tabular-like styles (such as long and super) need to test the nogroupskip option while defining \glsgroupskip (rather than having the test within \glsgroupskip). This is due to the problems caused by conditionals within tabular-like contexts.
